In the first week of August, Ukrainians in Calgary can look forward to a kayaking trip, a mountain retreat, an epoxy resin workshop, an evening of Ukrainian poetry, a rally, and an intensive English course.


Evening of Ukrainian Poetry

August 1, 4:00 PM



About event. Zoya Vlasenko, a former lecturer at the Kyiv National University of Theatre, Film, and Television, is hosting an evening of poetry for Ukrainians. This is a trial meeting, and if enough creative people join, they will be able to meet regularly to read their works or perform songs, supporting and inspiring each other. This first meeting could be interesting for anyone who enjoys rhyming and wants to showcase their creativity.

Evening Kayak Trip on the Elbow River

August 1 & 2, 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM



About event. Water spaces, a family from Kharkiv who has been organizing water tours in Ukraine for four years, continues their work in Canada. They are offering evening kayak trips on the Elbow River. The trip lasts 2-2.5 hours, during which cityscapes transition into natural landscapes. This non-extreme trip is suitable for beginners and families with children, ensuring safety under the guidance of experienced instructors.

 

📍 Where: Starting point – Sandy Beach Public Boat Launch (1125 50 Ave SW), ending point – Stampede Gate.

One-Day Mountain Retreat to Alberta Provincial Parks

August 3, Departure from Calgary at 6:00 AM



About event. Yoga instructor Artem Rusinov, originally from Khmelnytskyi and now living in Edmonton, is organizing a one-day retreat in the mountains amidst waterfalls and lakes. The program includes Hatha yoga and pranayama practice by the lake, nail-standing by Crescent Falls, trekking to Siffleur Falls, visiting Abraham Lake, and meditation.

🎟️ Terms. 150 CAD – includes transport, guidance, yoga and meditation mats. Meals not included, so participants should bring their own lunch and snacks.

Epoxy Resin Workshop

August 4, 12:00 PM



About event. Valeria Dubovyk, the owner of Art Calgary studio, will conduct a creative epoxy resin workshop. During the 1.5-2 hour class, she will share the secrets of creating interior decor masterpieces. Participants can make various shapes of panels, kitchen boards, or clocks, all while enjoying a glass of Prosecco.

Rally "Russian captivity maims and kills" 

August 4, 1:00 PM



About event. The Ukrainian Canadian Congress invites Ukrainians in Calgary to join a rally under the slogan "Russian captivity maims and kills." The goal is to raise awareness of the neglect of international requirements regarding the treatment of Ukrainian POWs in Russian captivity. Additionally, it is important to support and remember the returned prisoners, as their stories need to be heard worldwide.

Survival English

August 5-16, Monday-Friday 09:00 AM - 4:00 PM



About event. The Ukrainian Canadian Congress continues to sponsor English language training for newly arrived Ukrainians. The intensive course lasts 10 days and is designed for adults aged 18+. The new session starts on August 5. The program is aimed at beginners or those refreshing their school knowledge, focusing on learning basic communication phrases.


Note: Children are not allowed in the classes, so participants need to arrange childcare if necessary.
